Providing educational resources about humanitarian action and forced migration

About In-Sight Collaborative

In-Sight is a learning collaborative of global humanitarian practitioners, activists, nonprofit workers, displaced people, and everyone in between. Dedicated to cultivating a global community grounded in kindness, empathy, and human-centric solutions, their mission is rooted in the belief that anyone can be a humanitarian with the right resources and platform. They promote the exploration of emergent strategies, liberatory frameworks, and decolonial methodologies in humanitarian, development, nonprofit, and healing practices as they strive to support individuals to make a positive impact on the lives of forcibly displaced people worldwide. They facilitate collaboration within the humanitarian sector, providing educational tools, programs, and platforms to address harmful policies and practices and cultivate a more equitable aid system.

What They Do

In-Sight Collaborative's Humanitarian Leadership program is a cornerstone of their efforts to support individuals within the humanitarian sector and cultivate a more equitable aid system. Designed to provide a safe and welcoming introduction to leadership in the humanitarian sector, the program offers participants 6-week and 10-week virtual courses in English, Spanish, and Arabic covering the history, current trends, problems, and innovations in the field. Throughout the program, participants receive mentorship from In-Sight Collaborative and their partners, engaging in problem-solving activities and reflection exercises to refine their leadership skills. The program is geared towards not only shifting narratives around power and agency, but also lowering barriers to engage in humanitarian work.

Partnership with EMA

As a funder, EMA has helped to support the growth of In-Sight's Humanitarian Leadership program and the translation of materials into multiple languages while the EMA Communications team also provided critical capacity-building support in building, migrating, and hosting the program on a new learning management platform and producing a promotional video to broaden program outreach. In 2026 EMA and In-Sight collaborated on a live immersive film experience called Loving Across Borders, designed to provide a vivid and tangible look into the reality of migration in our world today. The program pilot premiered on Bainbridge Island, WA in March and will travel to other regions of the country throughout the year.

Their Impact

Ninety humanitarians and community workers from 35 countries completed the Humanitarian Leadership program, including an Arabic speaking cohort and expanded delivery to four new countries.

At the Individual Level:

91.3% of participants agree that the program created a space for learners to develop a sense of self and community.

“I loved getting to bond with like-hearted people from all over, learn from those who are currently working with migrant populations, and understand that just by showing up, we were already causing positive ripple effects of change in the humanitarian sector.”

At the Community Level:

69.6% of participants agree that the program influenced their access to networks and knowledge in service of improving their contribution in nonprofit and/or humanitarian work.

“I feel better connected to the humanitarian/nonprofit world and networks, and feel I have gained a lot of knowledge on how I can improve how I work and contribute to the sector.

At the Systems Level:

82.6% agree that the program influenced participants' ability to imagine empathetic interventions.

“I learned so much about empathetic interventions and in general, how empathy for myself can open me up to being a much better humanitarian. If we give ourselves the support and understanding that we need, it'll be much easier to do the same for others.”

In January 2026, In-Sight’s research into moral injury—developed over several years in partnership with William & Mary University—was published in the Journal of International Humanitarian Action, where it has been accessed over 1,300 times to date.

In 2025, the In-Sight education team launched a series of Humanitarian Wellness Groups, offering monthly journaling and wellness sessions. These groups create a space where individuals involved in humanitarian efforts can connect, share experiences, and process the emotional toll of their work through creative and hands-on means.
